Google Search Console may be making some changes

Google Search Console: Adding Multiple Properties

Google announced recently they are finally addressing one of our biggest pet peeves: having to manually add multiple properties to Search Console for the same root domain.

As things stand, we are required to add and verify all the different versions of the same domain…one at a time. It’s not an ideal system. It needs to be simplified and should take far less time.

John Mueller is the Webmaster Trends Analyst at Google. He recently was on a Google Hangout (below) where he addressed the questions of entering multiple versions of the same website (WWW-version and NON-WWW-version as well as the HTTP-version and the HTTPS-version). It doesn’t sound like they’re close to making the changes, as he says they will probably seek input from other webmasters in the future. But at least it’s on their radar!

As Mueller says, they would most likely allow us to add all versions (and possibly even subdomains) all at the same time.

In the meantime, we’re still going to have to manually add all four versions of the site but again, at least they are acknowledging that the process is annoying, at best.

Stay tuned for updates on Google Search Console.
